In 1949 there were so many children entering first grade at Fieldale Elementary that a third teacher was hired. Some remember being in Freida Stevenson's class for a couple of weeks and then being moved to another class with Mrs. Cannaday. Unfortunate. Pictured here from viewer's left are: Freida Stevenson, Mrs. Scales, Mrs. Cannaday, Estelle Joyce holding little Peggy Beheler's hand, Helen Stevenson, and Mildred Robbins. From Peggy Beheler Grayson: My brother Larry called me this evening about this photo, “1301”, and wanted to know if the little girl holding Mrs. Joyce’s hand is me. Yes, it’s me. And daddy had probably made that curl in my bangs before school that morning. Larry also said the teacher 2nd from the left is Mrs. Scales and he had her in 3rd grade. And Roberta Groner positively identified Helen Stevenson. |
